I provide comprehensive learning and academic assessments for children and adolescents ages 5 through 18. These evaluations are designed to identify learning differences that may affect a student’s ability to develop skills in reading, writing, or mathematics.

A learning assessment helps clarify whether a child may have a specific learning disorder, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. The goal of the evaluation is to better understand the student’s learning profile, including both strengths and areas of difficulty, and to provide recommendations that support academic success.

The evaluation typically includes:

  • A clinical interview with parents to review developmental, educational, and learning history

  • A clinical and academic interview with teacher (s) to review educational and learning strengths and challenges

  • Standardized cognitive testing to understand how the child processes information and learns

  • Academic achievement testing in areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics

  • Review of school reports or educational information when available

  • Behavioral and learning questionnaires completed by parents and teachers when appropriate

These assessments examine key learning skills, including:

  • Reading accuracy and comprehension

  • Spelling and written expression

  • Handwriting and written organization

  • Mathematical reasoning and calculation

  • Memory, processing speed, and other cognitive abilities related to learning

For many students, learning difficulties may be related to specific learning disorders, including:

  • Dyslexia (difficulty with reading and word recognition)

  • Dysgraphia (difficulty with writing and written expression)

  • Dyscalculia (difficulty with mathematics)

Diagnostic conclusions are made in accordance with criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and relevant Norwegian clinical guidelines for the assessment of learning disorders.

Following the evaluation, families receive a comprehensive written report that explains the results of the testing, summarizes the child’s learning profile, and provides individualized recommendations. These recommendations may include strategies for home and school, suggestions for educational support, and guidance for possible academic accommodations.

Please note that testing is conducted in English using standardized assessment measures developed in English, with comparison groups based on UK and U.S. normative samples.
